Back to School Questions
- If a child has any symptoms, will the school activate online learning so they don’t get behind in class? Yes. Students will be able to follow and receive instruction through Teams.
- Do students need to be tested for Covid and wait until the results are in before they are allowed back in school or are they automatically out of school for 14 days? Students with symptoms need to be tested and cannot return until symptoms have dissipated.
- In the event that someone has symptoms and you call a parent, what are the protocols when the parent(s) are in the city working and can’t make it there before an hour? We have an isolation room with bathroom access. Parents will not need to rush and can rest assured that an adult will be supervising the child.
- What if a student starts to have a runny nose and is stuffed up due to allergies, will they be sent home and required to do a COVID testing? No. We can make that decision locally by observing a number of symptoms without making a diagnosis. If there is a combination of runny nose, cough and fever, then our initial step is to inform a parent and isolate the child.
- Will the school board think about contactless fountains, where students can refill their reusable water bottles? We will not have a contactless fountain and we are suggesting that parents send students with at least two re-fillable water bottles.
- My child has sensitive hands and hand sanitizer is hard for them…will students be able to wash their hands with just soap and water to be sufficient? Yes, washing with soap and water will do and we will encourage students to do so as much as possible.
- What are the actual guidelines that Onslow is choosing to follow in regards to masks. Do all students need to have at least two in their backpacks and have to wear them in common areas or is this just addressed for Grade 5 and 6? We are following the guidelines established by public health and Cycle 3 (Grades 5&6) must wear masks in common areas: hallway, gym. Entry and exit areas and on the bus.
- Regarding daycare – because the children are from all different classrooms, will they be required to wear a mask all during daycare? No, not necessarily, though we recommend masks for older children for common areas. Day Care will follow social distancing routines.
- Will the students still be able to play sports? Yes, within class groups. We are looking forward to more information from public health as to larger or blended sport activities.
- Will breakfast club be offered? Yes. Breakfast club is going to start mid-September and be delivered to individuals in classes.
